Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean, famous for its local hospitality and wonderful year round climate. The island lies south of Turkey and west of Syria, with the vast majority of the population being Greek Orthodox Christians.
Although the official language is Greek, English is widely spoken in most areas with the exception of some of the more remote villages.
The currency in Cyprus at the moment is Cyprus Pounds, although it is thought this will change to Euros in 2007.
All EU citizens are permitted to live and work in Cyprus, although you must still register with the Immigration Dept. within 3 months of arriving.
There are three 18-hole golf courses on the island: Tsada, Secret Valley and Aphrodite Hills . Copper has been mined in Cyprus for thousands of years. The name Cyprus probably derives from the Greek for copper - kypros. |
