Situated on the west coast of the island, Paphos is the historical centre of Cyprus with the majority of the most important archaeological discoveries in and around this laid back town.
In Roman times, Paphos was the capital of Cyprus, gaining an endless list of history. According to legend the Goddess of Love - Aphrodite was born in Paphos, and conducted her affair with Adonis here.
One of the main charms of Paphos are the very friendly locals and the numerous small traditional villages, where it appears that time has stood still. Some of the best places to experience the true hospitality of the charming Cypriot people, are the villages scattered around the Troodos Mountains. Troodos offers a cool breeze in the very hot summer months and the opportunity to ski in the short winter time. Also close to Paphos is the rugged Akamas Peninsula, an area of great natural beauty. Lara Bay is lucky enough to greet the endangered Green Turtles every year when they visit to lay their eggs and nest their young here. |
